Yearbook Photo Size Requirements in Colorado In Colorado, senior photos are usually due to the yearbook some time in the Fall. Yearbook requirements will vary from school to school, but one thing typically in common is the DPI. DPI stands for Dots Per Inch. These dots play a big roll in the printing when it comes to the publishing of your high school yearbook. Your school will generally ask that your senior yearbook photo submission contains 300 DPI. While it is hoped that this requirement will result in a photo that has a good resolution for printing, one thing that high schools often fail to specify in their requirement is…

New SD Card Stuck In Camera
I about had a heart attack yesterday. I had just reformatted one of my new SanDisk SD cards that I bought in preparation for my photoshoots coming up next week. I put it in my camera, wanting to test it out for my photoshoot with my family that afternoon. I noticed it was a slightly tight fit, so I tried to push down, which usually is what I do to release the card. When it didn’t pop back up, my stomach dropped slightly. When I tried again, and it stayed in place, my heart joined my stomach. My new SD card was stuck in my camera. What to Do When…

Gracie’s Senior Photo Session
Senior Pictures in Colorado Springs Gracie’s Senior Pictures were at a beautiful and unique location near Colorado Springs. It was a perfect-weather day in August, with beautiful natural light. Complete with colorful rocks – whites, yellows, purples, and pinks – along with tall grasses and wildflowers, we had various backdrops to choose between, that would help her photos stand out. Her family came along for the photoshoot, and I enlisted their help behind camera to get natural smiles from Gracie. It was fun exploring the rock formations, and thankfully Gracie was willing to climb a bit with me to explore some of the more challenging to reach places. Her dad…

Andrea & Ryan’s Maternity Photos in Colorado Springs
The recent and seemingly unending wind has been a nightmare for Colorado Springs photographers – except for those rare moments when it works in their favor, giving one’s clients that supermodel-hair effect. Thankfully for me, the wind decided it needed a break during Andrea and Ryan’s maternity session. We needed that win, because showing up to Monument Valley Park, a popular place for portrait photography in Colorado Springs, we were disappointed to note that the lack of rain had made for a half-filled, smelly pond, and flower gardens that were not living up to their typical glory. Baby geese waddled nearby as we traipsed over the grass, trying not to…

Liam’s Senior Photo Session in Colorado
Trying to find a senior photographer in Colorado can be a daunting process – There are so many choices! You also have to consider where the photographer is located, if they are willing to travel or if you will have to travel to them, how much they charge, what they provide, are there extra fees for edits, if they allow outfit changes, if they have any availability… Thankfully for me and her, Liam’s mom had an easy choice in picking out a photographer! As Liam’s cousin, I felt honored to be asked and trusted to take his senior photos, and it was probably the most fun I’ve ever had during…

What to Wear for Senior Pictures
It’s almost my favorite season: Senior Season! If you are preparing to have your high school senior photos taken this summer, you might be wondering, “What should I wear for my senior pictures?” As a Colorado Photographer that loves senior photo sessions, here is some advice that I like to give my clients when they are deciding on their wardrobe: Keep it Simple, So the Focus is on YOU Aim for no logos or words on shirts. These can catch the eye and be distracting. I prefer solid colors and simple patterns. While tie dye might be back in style, clashing colors or a lot going on won’t be as…

Danielle’s Senior Photo Session
This session is one of my favorite senior photo sessions that I have done. With two different days of shooting, unlimited outfit changes, and being a gorgeous model, Danielle had a lot of beautiful images for graduation announcements, the yearbook, and of course, instagram 🙂 I was particularly excited for this session, and feeling rather old, because I used to babysit Danielle and her older sister. In fact, Danielle is the first baby I can ever remember holding! I used to create elaborate backdrops and props for impromptu photoshoots while I babysat them, that I would then gift their mom for her birthdays and Christmases. I was so honored to…

Resizing Your Senior Yearbook Picture to 300 DPI
Whether you are a photographer who takes senior photos or a parent of a high school senior frantically searching Google for “How to change a photo to 300 DPI”, I’ve got you covered. In this blog I am going to explain what DPI means and how to easily change your senior photo to 300 DPI in Photoshop, Lightroom, and in Mac Preview, in order to have it ready to submit to the yearbook. What does DPI mean? High schools now will send out a yearbook photo requirement telling parents that they need to submit a photo of their senior with “300 DPI” but what does that mean? DPI stands for…

Colorado Springs Labor Day Lift Off 2021
September 4th, 5th, and 6th marked the 45th annual Labor Day Lift Off event in Colorado Springs. This fun experience is one of my own family’s favorite traditions. I grew up going to the balloon festival at Chatfield State Park in Littleton, CO, which sadly had its last year in 2008, so I was ecstatic to be able to start the tradition of a balloon festival once again when I moved to the Springs. We decided this year to set our alarm for 5am (crazy, I know) so as to get a good parking spot near Memorial Park, where the balloons blow up and take off from. In true fashion…
